A couple weeks ago we celebrated with close friends and family Amelia’s 2nd birthday. I wanted this year to be really fun and low key. I like to call myself a lazy party planner because I’m all about using what I have, keeping things simple and not stressing myself out. I thought it would be really fun to have a backyard camping themed birthday party full of s’mores desserts, a tent full of pillows and blankets to play in, and have it in our backyard complete with a fire pit. The funny thing about that is we’ve never taken Amelia camping before, haha. We’re bad parents. We thought by having this themed party would ease her into it and it turned out to be a blast!
I contacted my friends from Tiny Prints and they were so generous and let me order these adorable invitations called Cozy Camp Out. I customized them by picking a scalloped edge and the Pearl White Shimmer paper. I really love how they turned out. I got phone calls from family and friends saying how much they loved Amelia’s crusty looking face. I thought it would be fun to showcase her signature look these days.
We had the party in our backyard and to create a central gathering area, I made this super easy DIY PVC backdrop stand. The best part about making this was most of the work was done at Home Depot where they cut the PVC pipe for me! Blessed souls! It only cost me $25! The backdrop is called White Bricks and is from Pepperlu.
Because I’m lazy I didn’t make any new decorations for this party. I used the same decorations I used for her 1st birthday party. I’ know, I’m an awful mom.
I think one of the most important parts of a birthday party is the food, right? For this party again, I kept it simple and easy. I didn’t want to be slaving away in the kitchen all day, because ain’t nobody got time for that! I made a s’mores dessert table with a couple of different s’mores desserts and of course had to get a six pound bag of gummy bears! There’s bears in the forest, so that totally goes with camping.
I made these S’mores Muddy Buddies and beware they are addicting. I made two batches of these babies and they were almost gone by the time the party was over. Thank heaven, so I don’t eat the rest of them.
I saw this S’mores Ice Cream Cake on Pinterest and thought it looked perfect for her birthday cake. It was actually really easy to make. While doing the very last step in the instructions I almost burned down my kitchen and house. When you make this cake, make sure to set the racks in the oven to the lowest setting so the marshmallow top doesn’t start on fire. Oops. After the marshmallow inferno had dissipated I scooped off the charcoaled mallows with a spoon. Despite the burnt edges of graham crackers it tasted amazing!
The polka dot plates and cups I used are from Pick Your Plum.
I also made an additional S’mores No Bake Cake just in case we had extra hungry tummies. This was super rich and addicting too.
For party favors I ordered these customized and edible lollipops from Lollipics to thank everyone for coming to the party. They were a huge hit and all of the kids were running around with these in their mouths. I was able to steal a couple licks from Amelia’s and they tasted really good.
These would be so fun not only for a birthday, but for a wedding, baby or wedding shower favors. All you do is upload a picture and pick a flavor/color lollipop and they’re sent to you a few days later. Easy peasy.
DIY Flower Pot Lollipop Holder
To make this flower pot lollipop holder, I took some fabric and mod podged it onto the terracotta pot. Once it was dry I stuffed the bottom with grocery sacks in the bottom to fill it up a bit, and then added a styrofoam ball in the middle and stuffed some more plastic sacks around the ball to secure it. Once the ball was secure I poked holes with the Lollipics’s sticks in the styrofoam. To cover up the styrofoam ball I covered it with some bagged moss.
I told our friends and family “no gifts” because McKay and I got her a nice gift and didn’t want to her to be too spoiled. The funny thing is most people didn’t listen and brought her gifts anyway. We feel blessed to have friends and family who are so generous.
Some of the other gifts Amelia got was this Elsa hat with a fake long braid attached to the back and this really life like baby doll with a mini pack n’ play. She was in heaven.
McKay and I gave her this balance bike to help her learn how to ride. McKay wants our family to become a biking family.
We thought we were all done with opening gifts and then my mom, or what Amelia likes to call her “Macca” got her this little kitchen. Amelia literally dropped her bike and baby doll on the ground and ran up to it with so much joy and excitement. Grandma definitely one up’d us this time when it came to gift giving.
Did you know you can order personalized gifts from TinyPrints.com? I thought Amelia would love a customized pillow with her initials on it for her room. I ordered this Night Garden Pillow and loved the way it turned out. Right now it’s sitting on her reading chair in her room and she loves laying on her sweet head on it.
I’m going to start making this a tradition every birthday by creating a photobook for each year of her life. I was nervous about creating one because I thought it was going to be really time consuming, but to my surprise it didn’t take long at all.
The great thing is Shutterfly gives you two options in creating a photobook. You can take a more custom path or the simple path when it comes to making a photobook. I wanted the process to be easier so I selected the simple path and chose one of the 20 beautiful styles where you just place pictures in the spaces, and add some text and you’re done! I chose the 10 x 10 size.
The book turned out beautiful. The hard cover and the print quality of the paper is amazing. I can’t believe how affordable these books are.
It was so fun to watch her go through her photobook.
Here’s the birthday girl and I in front of the birthday tent at her party. We had such a great time with good food, good company, and good music. You gotta listen to the Toddler Radio Station on Pandora, it’s hilarious! It was the perfect night for a chill birthday party.
BTW, you gotta check out White Plum, they have some amazing jumpsuits, palazzo pants, and overalls, like these Bonnie Crochet Overalls I’m wearing. They’re so comfy and have never gotten so many compliments on a piece of clothing as I have gotten on these. Also, did I mention they’re super flattering? Guess what, for all of our readers, you can shop and get 20% off on any order from White Plum when you enter the code FRYSAUCE20 until September 20th. They have a great sale going on right now!
