Hi there! I’ve been busy trying to find some affordable and simple ways to decorate my small apartment for the month of October. I found this awesome tutorial here to make some fun clay word magnets for the fridge, but then I had an idea, why not include some spooky Halloween words to decorate our small space?
Oven bake clay (I used Premo! in Wasabi)
Gold paint pen (allow this stuff works better)
Cookie sheet and oven
I began by cutting the clay into little chunks, and then rolling them out with my clay rolling pin.
Next, I’d cut the clay into strips about a half inch wide, and then…
I began stamping to my heart’s desire. I used a lot of spooky Halloween words, but I also made sure to stamp out some common words or sayings we like to say around our house. Sam and I made sure to include one of our favorite 30 Rock quotes, and also stamped out some words in German and Czech, since Sam and I are partial to those languages. Feel free to personalize your clay magnets to reflect your vocabulary or interests!
Once I was finished stamping out all of the clay, I placed them on a cookie sheet and cooked them at 275 degrees for 25 minutes.
I waited till the next day to put the magnet tape on the back sides, but I think you’d be safe to wait a few hours until they have cooled and hardened.
***As a sidenote, I attempted to embellish a few words with a gold paint pen. Like a lot of DIY attempts, it didn’t turn out as I had planned. I have two theories as to why this is the case. First, the color of clay I used was too dark, and second, I think the paint pen wasn’t bright enough. I think that if I had used a liquid gold leaf paint, it would’ve yielded a better result.
And, Voila! You now have a fun way to decorate your small space for the month of October.
