Back in spring my husband and I tore out all of the carpet in the main level of our house and installed some new laminate flooring. It’s been one of the best decisions we’ve made, well other than marrying each other. Because there was no longer carpet in the family room I knew a rug was needed because playing on a hard surface blows and really hurts your butt. We needed to get a rug that could withstand children, was durable, soft and comfortable to the touch and to lay on, and wanted the rug to be stylish, inviting, and make a statement in the room. I had a lot of criteria for this rug.
I was SOO thrilled when PlushRugs.com contacted me and wanted to work with me. They asked me to pick a rug of my choice and to review it and to do a giveaway on the blog. I immediately said yes. I headed over to their site and when I started to search I knew that this was going to take a while to choose a rug. They have THOUSANDS of rugs to choose from on their site. The hardest part was there were so many I liked but they had to pass the husband test (he likes to have a say in some of the decor in our house). We spent DAYS going over hundreds of rugs. We saw this one and guess what, we both liked it! I knew this was the rug for us. It was kind of like love at first site.
We got the Safavieh Chatham rug because we loved the eclectic Moroccan style and thought it would be a fun addition to our room. It’s made from a .5″ wool pile and we got it in the 8×10 size. I wanted a soft texture and a rug that was bit thicker and this rug is perfect in both of these areas. It’s a rug that you want to lay and sit on. When I ordered our rug we got a FREE rug slip pad that goes underneath so the rug doesn’t slide all over the place. I just cut ours to fit the size of the rug and it hasn’t moved an inch.
I’l be honest I was kind of scared of having a rug that has white it it especially with a small child and family members (I won’t mention names) who don’t take off their shoes when they come inside my house, but I knew that with a little more enforcement of no food in the family room, and reminding people to take off their shoes, I can make this rug work in my home.
I did have a mini incident with the rug earlier this week when my daughter grabbed an entire bottle of cinnamon and dumped it all over the rug and our couch. I was baking a dessert for Halloween and I guess she wanted to bake too. I thought the rug was going to get stained brown because the cinnamon was embedded into the rug. To my surprise with some vacuuming it cleaned up like a gem. The joys of motherhood.
The one thing to remind all of you who order a wool pile rug is that it will shed. After doing some research I found out the reason is because pile rugs are made with short fibers instead of long continuous fibers, the shorter fiber rugs tend to shed more. It hasn’t bothered me because every couple days I need to vacuum the rug and sweep the floors anyway. When I see that there’s rug fibers on the hard floor, it reminds me that hey it’s probably time to clean. The first couple days we had the rug it shedded a lot but a couple weeks later it’s died down a bit.
We’ve had the rug for a couple weeks now and I LOVE it. A few days ago we thought we had a gas leak in our house so we called up the gas company to have someone come to our house and check it out. The man who came to our house walked into our family room and said, “Wow, that is an awesome rug!” He continued to tell me how well the rug matched the decor of my house and how he really liked how I decorated our house and he could tell I had really good style. Seriously, I was on cloud nine. For anyone who wants to be my best friend, just compliment on my house and I’ll love you forever. I was so touched that this gas man who told us he has a degree in design was so impressed with our small and humble home, it made me even happier that we chose this rug.
So now for the exciting part. PlushRugs.com has been so generous to me that they’re allowing me to giveaway a $200 credit to one of you towards any rug on their site. The holidays are coming up soon and if you’re having family over for Thanksgiving or for Christmas and want to spruce up your house, a new rug can do wonders.
I will be checking to see if you did all of your entry actions so make sure you do it! When I pick the winner I’ll email you. The giveaway ends Monday November 10th at 11:59 p.m.
Good luck everyone and I want to thank PlushRugs.com for supporting Fry Sauce & Grits.
