Last week we were able to surprise our family with the gender of our baby. I went to the ultrasound earlier in the day and because McKay had two finals that afternoon he couldn’t come with me (thank you Dad for holding Amelia during the ultrasound appointment!).
After doing some research on Pinterest I found that Krispy Kreme does gender reveal donuts where they fill the donuts with blue or pink cream. This was super affordable and for donut lovers was the way we wanted to find out what were having with our family. To make it a big surprise I asked the ultrasound tech to keep the gender a secret by writing it down on a piece of paper and placing in an envelope and if it was really apparent what it was, have me turn away.
Literally one minute after I told the tech this she was checking the baby and then right out of the blue, she told me the gender. I’m sorry, this sounds really dramatic, but I was mad. I thought to myself, “What a bitch!” I know, the pregnancy hormones were raging. I calmed down and everything went fine, but still I was kind of bugged. So my Dad, Amelia, and I knew, but it was still going to be a surprise for McKay and both sides of our families. The plan was to get the gender reveal donuts and eat them later in the evening so McKay and my family all together could find out together.
I had my family write down what their predictions. Then each of us took a donut and then on the count of three we all took a bite and it was thrilling to see how excited everyone was! It was a fun and delicious way to find out we’re having a boy! We broke the girl streak on both sides of our family. For all of you history nerds out there you’ll appreciate this. McKay jokingly said that I was going to produce him an heir and I replied by saying it was a good thing because then he wouldn’t have to behead me.
Anyway, we’re so excited, but it is going to be weird to not need bows and dresses. I have a lot of shopping ahead of me because I have nothing boy in my home.
