Last week I attended Alt Summit and one of the sponsors, Minted had a really cute gathering area where they were having attendees make Valentine’s Day gift boxes full of candy and a small gift tags wrapped in their new line of beautiful cotton canvas fabrics. They were so cute and easy to make and it got me thinking how fun it would be to make some more. This week I grabbed some scraps of fabric like some old red suede leather, and some gold and ivory stripped fabric from an old dress, with some of the fabric pieces I got from Minted.com and decided to jazz up these little Valentine’s Day gift idea boxes. I’m craft challenged and even for me this was super easy and the end result turned out beautiful, simple, and makes a wonderful gift for a loved one for Valentine’s Day.
To make these gift boxes all you need the following:
–Gift boxes (I used two 4″ X 4 ” and the smaller box was 3.5″ X 3.5″)
– Three pieces of fabric (the rose and arrow fabrics are from Minted.com) (red suede is from my fabric scrap bag)
-Valentine’s candy, toys, small gift(s), or a card.
First, you need to cute your fabric to wrap the gift box in the dimensions of 12″ X 21″. Fold the fabric lengthwise.
On the two sides you’re going to measure 2.5″ up from the fold. Make sure to mark it with a pen.
Then you’re going to find the middle part of the fold and take your ruler and measure 21″ up from the fold. Mark the spot.
Connect the dots so it looks like this. Cut it out.
The next part is fun because you get to fill your little gift boxes full of love. I did three different kind of themes.
One box with candy and a simple Valentine’s Day card.
One box with candy and a handmade necklace.
The next step is to wrap the gift boxes. Make sure to put the lids over the boxes! Place the gift box in the middle of the fabric wrong side up.
Fold over one side. To make sure the fabric is secure, tape it down to the box.
Fold over the other side and tape it down.
Take both sides and pinch the ends.
Fold over both sides where they meet in the middle and tie the ends together. I like to do a double knot to secure it better.
It should look something like this.
And that’s it! You’re done. Now go and spread the love by giving away these sweet, simple, and fun diy Valentine’s Day fabric gift boxes. Thanks Minted.com for the inspiration! FYI, this isn’t a sponsored post. I just really like Minted and wanted to feature some of the cute and creative stuff they’re doing over there,
I went onto Good Things Utah and showed Michelle Money how to make these, check it out below!
