Here’s another fun little project I did with my jar of Liquid Leaf (here is also a Martha Stewart liquid leaf that might be a cheaper option). Liquid leaf is nice to work with because a little goes a long way. I was in desperate need of some storage for sheet music, important papers, and schoolwork, so I thought I’d go with Ikea’s Kassett Magazine Folders. I liked the shape and price, but I really wanted the handles to be gold, instead of silver. So I thought I’d do a simple Ikea Magazine Folder Hack on the blog! Follow along to see how I changed the hardware on these simple magazine folders from silver to gold.
I first, pulled out all of the smaller corner pieces and painted one coat of liquid leaf. Liquid leaf will dry pretty fast, so once you are finished with your first coat, you can move onto your second coat.
Let the corner pieces dry while you tackle the handle and edging. You can read here in my last liquid leaf project about using liquid leaf and how to effectively remove it from your hands and brushes.
As you can see, I didn’t really use any painters tape to avoid painting on the actual magazine folder. I just tried to be careful, and I didn’t really care if I painted a little outside of the lines. However, if you are more patient than I am you can easily tape the edges off for a more clean look. Once you are done painting the handles and edges, you can put the corner pieces on the magazine folders.
And there you go! You’ve got some fancy looking magazine folders for your office or bookshelf needs!
